Mysuru: Dr. S.M. Munirathnam Chetty (94), former Principal and Professor of Medicine, JSS Medical College, Mysuru during 1991-93, passed away last evening at his son Dr. S. M. Ravindranath’s residence in Jayalakshmipuram here.

Dr. Chetty was the Founder-Member of the Diabetic Association of India and was the President of Coimbatore Branch for 15 years. Also, he was the first Diabetologist for Coimbatore in 1965.

He leaves behind two sons and two daughters. His elder son Dr. Ravindranath was the former Medical Director of Apollo BGS Hospital, Mysuru and now serving as Consultant Surgeon at Vivekananda Memorial Hospital, Saragur and also Director, HR, Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement.

Last rites at 3 pm today at    Vijayanagar 4th Stage Crematorium (Mukthidhama).
