Mysore/Mysuru: Former Vice-Chancellor of University of Mysore (UoM), Prof. S.N. Hegde (83), passed away in city this afternoon.
Prof. Hegde served two terms as UoM VC between 1997 and 2003. A distinguished academic, he was a Professor of Zoology and was widely respected for his contributions to higher education and University administration.
Six months ago, Prof. Hegde lost his wife, following which he had been residing with his family in Vijayanagar. He is survived by two daughters, one residing in Mysuru and the other in the US.
According to family sources, Prof. Hegde collapsed at his residence yesterday morning due to high blood pressure and was immediately shifted to a private hospital. Doctors said he was suffering from multi-organ failure and was admitted to the ICU.
Last rites will be held in Mysuru either on Thursday or Friday, after the arrival of his daughter and grandson from abroad, said former VC Prof. K.S. Rangappa, a close associate of Prof. Hegde.
