Forum appeals authorities not to allow ‘Mahisha Dasara’

Mysuru: The Informed Citizens Forum (Pragnavantha Nagarikara Vedike) has urged the authorities not to allow ‘Mahisha Dasara.’

Addressing a press meet here yesterday, Forum Vice-President Jayasimha Sridhar said that the Forum strongly opposes the idea of ‘Mahisha Dasara.’

Pointing out that Dasara is being traditionally celebrated as a Nada Habba from over four centuries, he said that some persons have been pushing for celebration of ‘Mahisha Dasara’ which is not correct.

Maintaining that the celebration of ‘Mahisha Dasara’ will send a wrong message at a time when the city was geared up for the world famous Dasara festival, Sridhar said that the Forum has presented a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner not to allow ‘Mahisha Dasara.’

Calling for the celebration of traditional Dasara with the involvement of everyone, he said that efforts will be made to convince the organisers of ‘Mahisha Dasara’ against holding of the event. Forum Office-bearers Sandesh Pawar, Pramod Gowda, Umesh, Harish Gowda and others were present at press meet.
