Four arrested for house burglary, chain snatching; 85 cases solved

Gold, silver, cars, two-wheelers, ganja, pistols, live bullets worth Rs. 45 lakh seized

Mysore/Mysuru: The City Crime Branch (CCB) Police have made significant progress in combating crime by arresting four individuals involved in 85 criminal cases, including chain snatchings, house burglaries and vehicle thefts.

The operation has led to the recovery of substantial amounts of gold, silver, cars and two-wheelers, alongside the seizure of pistols, ammunition, narcotics and mobile phones, with a total value of Rs. 45 lakh.

Addressing a press conference at her office in Nazarbad yesterday, City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar detailed the operation’s success.

On June 6, 2024, a burglary occurred at a residence in Shyadanahalli, Metagalli Police limits, where thieves made off with gold ornaments valued at Rs. 11.4 lakh. A special police team, led by CCB ACP S.N. Sandesh Kumar, was immediately formed to tackle the case.

The team arrested one of the burglars on July 16 on Shivaji Road in N.R. Mohalla. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to his involvement in the burglary and identified three accomplices. He also revealed that they had committed similar crimes in Mysuru and other areas.

Following this lead, the CCB team managed to arrest the remaining three suspects on Aug. 21 near the KIADB Office on KRS Road. Out of the four arrested individuals, three were linked to 11 cases across Mysuru city and district.

The police’s diligent work led to the recovery of 551 grams of gold ornaments, 1.4 kg of silver articles, two cars, and three two-wheelers. Additionally, two pistols, live ammunition, two mobile phones, an iron rod, a screwdriver and two pairs of gloves used for criminal activities were seized.

The arrests have led to the resolution of five house burglary cases in Mysuru city, one case each in Mysuru and Mandya districts, one extortion case each in Mysuru and Mandya districts, and one vehicle theft case each in Mysuru and Bengaluru districts.

One of the suspects had 36 criminal cases registered against him across various districts, another had 17 cases, and a third was involved in a ganja case, with 4.66 kg of ganja, a pistol and a car seized from him.

All four suspects had been released on bail on April 27, 2024, and were involved in 11 cases since their release. The suspects include three from Mysuru and one from Shivamogga. The Police are continuing their investigation to locate the person who sold the pistol and the ganja.

Seema Latkar emphasised the importance of ongoing investigations and preventive measures and said that the identities of the arrested has been kept confidential in the interests of investigation.

The operation was overseen by DCPs M. Muthuraj (Law and Order) and S. Jahnavi (Crime and Traffic), along with CCB staff including Inspectors M. Mohankumar, Maruthi Antharagatti, ASIs Asgar Khan, M.R. Ganesh, and Ramegowda, along with staff Prakash, Ramaswamy, Jayaram, Uma Mahesh, Suresh, Mahesh, Narasimharaju, Ravi, Govinda, Shivanna, K. Mahesh, C.N. Ravi and Mamatha.
