Four car garages gutted: 11 cars go up in flames

Mysuru: Over eleven cars were destroyed in a fire that broke out at four garages in city in the wee hours of today. The cars, most of them high-end, were left at the garages for repair works by owners and they have been charred beyond recognition.

The incident occurred at around 2.30 am today at four car garages at Tipu Circle near Millennium Circle and LIC Head Office. The fire was noticed only in the morning and by then the flames had destroyed all the four garages. Fire tenders were rushed from Bannimantap and they contained further damages. The cause for the fire is, however, not known. While a few residents of the area suspected electric short-circuit, the garage owners have alleged that some miscreants would have set one garage on fire that spread to other garages.

Speaking to Star of Mysore this morning, Munna, one of the garage owners, said that they have been doing business at the place since 11 years. “Owners had left their cars including Skoda, Swift, I20, Ritz and all of them have been destroyed,” he said. The garages are owned by Kidhar, Khaleel, Riyaz and Munna.

Munna and other garage owners have suspected that some miscreants would have set fire to the garages that also had combustible materials like waste oil, grease, petrol and diesel.

Former Corporator Syed Akram, who visited the spot said that the garage owners were given land from Wakf Board 16 years ago. He also suspected that the incident was a handiwork of miscreants.

Narasimharaja Police Inspector Ashok Kumar and ACP Umesh G. Shet visited the spot and have registered a case. Police said that they will probe sabotage angle also and it was too early to ascertain the cause of fire at this juncture.
