Mysore/Mysuru: In separate cases, city’s 7th Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced four ganja peddlers to four-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 80,000 after they were found guilty of the crime.

In the first case, on Sept. 25 at about 4.30 pm, Police found a ganja peddler sorting ganja leaves on the road leading to Royal Function Hall, next to old Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway near Pothraju Building, with an intention to sell the narcotic substance to truck drivers and youths, and arrested him. The Police had also seized 2.568-kg  ganja from him.

Investigation Officer K.S. Niranjan, who conducted investigation, had submitted a charge-sheet to the Court. Judge M. Ramesh, who took up the case, heard the arguments from both sides, found the accused guilty and sentenced him to 4 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 40,000 on him. The convict has to undergo an additional six months rigours imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.

In the second case, Police caught three persons transporting 5.918-kg ganja in a passenger auto (KA-03-AB-4616) on May 28, 2023 at about 9 am.

Investigating Officer S.D. Sureshkumar, who conducted investigation, had submitted a charge-sheet to the Court.

Judge M. Ramesh, who took up the case on Apr. 30, 2026, heard the arguments from both sides, found all the three accused guilty and sentenced them to four years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 40,000.

Failing to pay the fine, the convicts will have to undergo an additional six months rigorous imprisonment. Public Prosecutor N.B. Vijayalakshmi argued on behalf of the Government.
