July 24, 2017

Mysuru: A one-day basic training programme on Child Rights, sponsored by National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi was organised by the Department of Studies in Public Administration, University of Mysore at B.M. Shree auditorium in Manasagangothri here this morning.

About 100 research scholars and students associated with Public Administration attended the programme.

Inaugurating the programme Dr. Dharanidevi Malagathi, Principal, Police Training School opined that every child should be exposed to his/her rights and the Police Department along with judiciary should go all out to curb child trafficking. She stressed that the under privileged Children should be protected well.

Speaking as the chief guest, former Lokayukta Justice N. Santhosh Hegde opined that a child should enjoy all constitutional rights. However he remarked that laws were many to protect child rights but they were not being implemented completely. He pointed out that a radical change of mind was needed among people in society without which any law cannot be effective.

He regretted that only a few child abuse cases have been solved and the guilty punished.

He thus summed up that greed of power was eating into democracy making all its four pillars feeble and not reliable

In-charge Vice-Cancellor Dr. Dayananda Mane presided.
