Fraudster cheats woman of Rs. 15 lakh on the pretext of sending her gifts

Mysore/Mysuru: A miscreant, who befriended a woman online, has cheated her to the tune of   Rs. 15 lakh on the pretext of sending her gifts from abroad.

The woman, who has been cheated, is 32-year-old S. Bhuvaneshwari, a resident of Ashokapuram in city.

About 20 days back, the miscreant, who made friends with the woman, told her that he was working as an Accounts Manager in the UK. Later, he sent a message on WhatsApp to the woman, stating that he was sending a gift from UK.

Meanwhile, the woman received a call from mobile number 90895-96195 and the caller informed her that a parcel had arrived from the UK and she had to pay Custom charges to get the parcel and get Rs. 15 lakh transferred from her account, thus cheating her.

A case has been registered at city’s Cyber, Economic and Narcotics (CEN) Crime Police Station.
