Freedom fighter D. Basavaiah passes away

Chamarajanagar: D. Basavaiah (95), a senior freedom fighter and a resident of Kagalawadi village in the taluk, passed away following age-related illness at his son’s residence in Mysuru yesterday.

He leaves behind his wife Kamalamma, three sons including K.B. Omprakash, a resident of Gowrishankaranagar in Mysuru, one daughter and a host of relatives and friends.

Basavaiah began participating in freedom struggle during his High School days and had met Mahatma Gandhi when the latter visited Badanavalu. Last rites were performed with full State honours at Kagalawadi today.
