Freedom Fighter, retired Professor passes away

Mysore/Mysuru: T. Venkatachalaiah (95), a senior freedom fighter and retired Economics and English Professor, passed away at his residence in 6th Main, 6th Cross in Gokulam, this morning.

He leaves behind his wife Rajalakshmamma, sons V. Kumar and V. Prakash, daughter Vasanthalatha and a host of relatives and friends.

A close associate of centenarian freedom fighter and Gandhian late H.S. Doreswamy, Venkatachalaiah had taken part in many freedom struggles and was a recipient of various awards. He was also honoured by various organisations including Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM) and Freedom Fighters Association. He had also served as a teacher at Ramakrishna Vidyashala for some time. Last rites were performed at Muktidhama in Vijayanagar 4th Stage this afternoon.
