Gamaka Vachana at BVB tomorrow  

Mysuru:  Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB), Mysuru Kendra, is hosting its monthly cultural programme of Gamaka  Vachana by Karnataka Kalasri Krishnagiri Ramachandra on the topic “Lord Krishna as seen by Kumaravyasa” at 6 pm on  Saturday (July 21) at Bhavan’s Thathachari auditorium in Vijayanagar here.

The interpretation will be rendered by Dr. Jyothi Shankar. The   programme centres around Lord Krishna’s role in many episodes  of Mahabharata as part of his life’s mission of “punishing the wicked and  protecting the good.”

Artistes’ Profile:  Krishnagiri Ramachandra, a professional irrigation civil engineer, took to the art of Gamaka from his childhood days under the  tutelage of his father Vid. Krishnagiri Krishna Rao, who was one of the stalwarts in Gamaka in his days, an art of singing from the compositions of Kannada literature such as Jaimini  Bharata and Kumara Vyasa Bharata.

Dr. Jyothi Shankar holds a Doctorate in Kannada, besides being a Vidwan in Karnataka classical music and in Gamaka art.  She has undergone training in music and Gamaka under Vidwans Subba Krishna, R.K. Padmanabha, Madikeri Nagendra and K. Ramachandra. She  is a professor of Kannada in KSOU.
