Mysuru: The 10-day ‘Gandhi Shilp Bazaar’ handicrafts exhibition organised by the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, New Delhi and JSS Mahavidyapeetha, began at JSS Mysore Urban Haat premises in Hebbal here on Nov.17.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. Rajvir Pratap Sharma, ADGP and Managing Director, Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd., Bengaluru.
More than 100 craftsmen from all over the country are taking part in the bazaar which will be held till Nov. 26 from 10 am to 9 pm. The artistes will present live demonstrations in art and craft-making apart from displaying Kasuthi sarees, Tussar silk sarees, Kantha stitch sarees, Banaras sarees and dress materials, boutique sarees and Bengali cotton sarees. This part, woodcarving and furniture from Saharanpur, wood inlay, modern art murals, ceramics, Madhubani paintings, Rajasthani miniature paintings, Rajasthani footwear, Gujarati dresses, dried flowers, a variety of leather items, jute products, vegetable print dress materials, imitation jewellery and gem stone jewellery are also on display. There are also Marble paintings, Karnataka silk sarees, Chennapattana toys and terracotta items.
P. Shivashankar, ZP CEO, presided. Mallikarjunaiah, Regional Director (Southern Region), Ministry of Textiles, Chennai, Dr. C. Ranganathaiah, Director (P&D), JSS Technical Education Division and Sashidhar, Assistant Director, Handicraft Marketing & Service Extension Centre, Mysuru, were the chief guests.
