Gang poses as ‘fundraisers’, cheats public in Mandya

Mandya: There is a gang on the prowl which is robbing people on the pretext of collecting donations.

The gang members act as if they are specially abled and rob people of their mobile phones, purse and other items. Two such incidents have been caught on CCTV cameras.

The gang is said to be active in Mandya and Mysuru and such incidents have taken place at the General Post Office on VV Road in Mandya and at Karnataka Grameena Bank in Kalenahalli village at Mandya taluk. Both the incidents have been caught on CCTV cameras.

Details: The gang members posing as deaf, dumb and blind visit banks, post offices, jewellery stores, mobile phone shops and other crowded places on the pretext of collecting donations, divert the attention of the people and decamp with mobile phones and other valuable items.

The gang members steal mobile phones and flee with their accomplice, who would be waiting outside on a bike.

An incident of a gang member fleeing with an accomplice on a bike after decamping with a mobile phone at Karnataka Grameena Bank at Kalenahalli has been caught on a CCTV camera.

The footage shows a man entering the bank and sitting on a chair near the counter and asking donations from bank customers. He then holds a paper, picks up a mobile phone kept on the table and walks out of the Bank. Similar incident has also taken place at the General Post Office in Mandya town.

Mandya West and Mandya Rural Police are investigating.
