Gang waylays car on Mysuru-Ooty Highway: Woman robbed of gold chain, cellphone near Nanjangud

July 29, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: A gang of eight waylaid a car near Hosahalli Gate in Nanjangud on Mysuru-Ooty National Highway and robbed a woman of her gold chain and cellphone last evening.

The victim is identified as Jayashri, aged 45 years and wife of Ayurveda medical practitioner Dr. Rajendra of Ashoka road in Mysuru. The incident occurred when Jayashri was returning to Mysuru in a SUV (KA 09 MG 4928) from Calicut in Kerala where her daughter stays. Jayashri was accompanied by her son Vishal, while the SUV was driven by their relative Vijay.

Miscreants, who came in two cars, waylaid the SUV, smashed the window glasses with lethal weapons, before yanking off the mangalya chain of Jayashri and also her cellphone. As the villagers started to gather around upon hearing the commotion, the miscreants sped away in their vehicles. Hadn’t the villagers gathered around, the possibilities of untoward incident couldn’t have been ruled out, it is said.

According to the Police, the mobile tower location of Jayashri’s cellphone is detected nearby, as the miscreants haven’t switched off the phone. The phone may have either fallen off from the hands of  miscreants in the melee or they have deliberately thrown it away.

Additional Superintendent of Police Dr. B.N. Nandini, Dy.SP (Nanjangud Sub-division) Govindaraju and Circle Police Inspector of Nanjangud Shivananja Shetty visited the spot. A case has been registered at Nanjangud Rural Police Station.
