Ganja peddlers arrested: 23.567 kg ganja, cash seized

Mysore/Mysuru: City Crime Branch (CCB) Police, on Feb. 24, have arrested two persons on charges of selling ganja illegally and have seized 23.567 kg ganja and cash from them.

Acting on a tip off, the CCB Police, on Feb. 24, raided the Bus Stop opposite PKTB Hospital on KRS Road and arrested 60-year-old Siddaraju of Belagola village in Srirangapatna taluk, who was waiting at the Bus Stop with a kit bag containing ganja to sell the same and seized 5.450 kg ganja and Rs. 1,400 cash from him.

A case has been registered at Economic and Narcotics Offence Wing Police Station. During interrogation, the accused is said to have confessed of growing the ganja plants since 30 years between trees and bushes at islands in Cauvery River at Yedatittu village, later harvest and sell the same at his tea stall in Belagola and in Mysuru along with his son Manjunath.

Based on the information provided by accused Siddaraju, the Police raided the tea stall at Belagola on Feb. 25 and arrested 36-year-old Manjunath. The Police also seized 18.117 kg ganja and Rs. 5,380 cash from him.

Accused Manjunath had already gone to the jail following a criminal case registered against him under Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for selling ganja.

City Police Commissioner Dr. Chandragupta and DCP Dr. A.N. Prakashgowda supervised CCB ACP V. Mariyappa, Inspectors A. Mallesh, H.R. Vivekananda and C. Kiran Kumar and staff R. Raju, Joseph Noronha, D. Srinivasa Prasad, W.D. Deepak, M.R. Ganesh, K.C. Arun Kumar, N.M. Nagesh, H.S. Puneeth and Sannegowda in the nabbing and seizing operations.
