January 13, 2026

The 24th edition of Geeth Gaatha Chal, one of Mysuru’s most popular cultural and musical programmes, was held successfully on Jan. 11, 2026, at the Platinum Jubilee Hall of MMC&RI at JK Grounds.

The event once again lived up to its reputation of offering a unique blend of nostalgia, discipline and musical camaraderie, drawing a packed and appreciative audience.

Conceptualised as a platform where doctors and their family members showcase their musical talent, Geeth Gaatha Chal (GGC) has, over the years, evolved into a signature cultural event in the city.

The programme featured a rich repertoire of evergreen Hindi and Kannada film songs, presented with finesse and heartfelt emotion, evoking warm memories among listeners.

The event was sponsored by noted entrepreneur and industrialist Dr. M. Jagannath Shenoy and his wife Kusuma Shenoy.

The audience was welcomed by Dr. M.S. Natashekhar,  one of the founding members of Geeth Gaatha Chal.

Chief guest Dr. Arun Srinivas,  Head of the Department of Cardiology at Apollo BGS Hospitals, Mysuru, was felicitated on the occasion for his services in the field of medicine.

Speaking on the occasion, he lauded the initiative for promoting wellness through music.

He also paid tribute to senior doctors in the audience who were his role models.

Dr. K.C. Belliappa, former Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh, the guest of honour, spoke on the calming and unifying power of music, especially for professionals in demanding fields.

Presiding over the programme, Chairperson Dr. Somanath Vasudeva highlighted the importance of blending innovation with tradition. He and the Co-Chairperson Dr. Seethalakshmy Somanath introduced a new segment in the programme called “Raag Pe Charcha.”

A major highlight of this year’s edition was “Raag Pe Charcha,” an audience-interactive segment that invited listeners to identify the ‘classical raag’ underlying a popular film song and then they were asked to guess six songs of that raag which were then sung by four different singers.

This innovation which featured the ‘Raag Yaman’ was met with enthusiastic participation.

The programme was ably compered by Syed Aftab, whose lively, articulate and audience-friendly anchoring added to the overall charm of the evening.

Overall, Geeth Gaatha Chal – 24th Edition stood out as a fine celebration of music, culture and community spirit, reaffirming its place as a cherished fixture in Mysuru’s cultural calendar.
