Gejjalagere youth’s murder case: Rowdy-sheeter among seven arrested by Police

Mandya: Mandya District Police have arrested seven persons including a rowdy-sheeter in the murder case of Hemanth Kumar. 

Hemanth Kumar was allegedly murdered by a group of youths on May 10 at Gejjalagere in Maddur Police limits.

Disclosing this at a press meet at the SP’s Office on Monday, Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr. Ashwini said that the arrested are G.P. Indukumar alias Paawali, a rowdy-sheeter at Gejjalagere, Madhu alias Kappe of Mudugere in Channapatna, Nagaraju alias Naga, G.N. Mahadeva, Prasad alias Putta and M.S. Swaroop Gowda alias Swaroopa of Gejjalagere and Avinash alias Idli of Bilikere village in Channapatna taluk.

The SP further said that accused Indukumar, Prasad and Swaroop were arrested on May 16 evening near Mudugere Gate in Channapatna taluk of Ramanagar district, while Madhu, Nagaraju, Mahadeva and Avinash were arrested on May 17.

Continuing, Dr. Ashwini said that deceased Hemanth Kumar and accused Indukumar belong to the same village and the two had differences over KMF Milk Dairy tender process and added that on May 9 evening during a cricket match, a fight had taken place between Hemanth’s friend Santosh and Indukumar.

On May 9, when Hemanth parked the Canter vehicle at KMF Dairy at Gejjalagere and was returning home along with his friend Sunil, accused Indukumar, Prasad and others, who were waiting for them in a car (KA-05-E-5094), rammed the car into the bike on which Hemanth and Sunil were riding, the SP said and added that as soon as Hemanth and Sunil fell from the bike, the car occupants armed with machetes hacked Hemanth and bludgeoned him to death with concrete bricks. As one of the wheels of the car got punctured, the accused had abandoned the car and had fled from the spot, the SP said.

The accused had also brutally assaulted Sunil and based on the complaint from Hemanth’s father Srikanta, a Police team was constituted to trace and arrest the accused, the SP said and added that Malavalli Dy.SP Lakshminarayana Prasad, Maddur Circle Inspector B.R. Gowda, Sub-Inspector Naveen Gowda, Mohan and D. Patel took part in the operation. 

The Maruti Swift car and three two-wheelers used for the crime have been seized, SP Dr. Ashwini said. Additional SP Dhananjay and others were present during the press meet.
