‘Gender issues should be sensitised’

AKSHARA bilingual journal released

Mysuru:  Sensitising the gender issues is the need of the hour, opined ex-MLC and former Chairman of National Women’s  Commission Nirmala Venkatesh. She was speaking at the release of AKSHARA, a bilingual journal brought out by the Department of Journalism, Maharaja’s College here recently.

She urged that men at a very young age should be taught about treating women right only then there can be real gender equality. She then stressed that the implementation of law is what matters and not just its existence, especially when it comes to women rights.

College Principal Prof. C.P. Sunitha presided over the programme. Dr. Pramila B. Kunnur, Head, Department of  Journalism, welcomed. Faculty Shwetha M. Hans proposed a vote of thanks.

Prof. Anita Vimla Braggs, Administrative Officer, Dr. Gopala, Dr. Raghavendra and students were present.
