Mysuru: To commemorate the formation of Indian Orthodontic Society, Orthodontists Day was celebrated by the Department of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics at JSS Dental College and Hospital in the city recently. The theme of the Orthodontist Day was “Gift A Smile” — a unique social initiative that provides free orthodontic treatment to the underprivileged.
Dr. K. Javeed Nayeem, Consultant Physician and Star of Mysore columnist, was the chief guest. Dr. P.A. Kushalappa, Director – Academics, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSSAHER), was the guest of honour.
Free Orthodontic treatment was announced for 20 underprivileged children in need of orthodontic treatment from JSS School, SS Nagar and Suttur.
This philanthropic initiative by the Department will benefit 20 children which otherwise would have cost Rs.10,000 per patient.
As part of the programme, an awareness lecture regarding the importance of orthodontic treatment was delivered. A smile contest and floral carpet competition were held. The topper in the subject of orthodontics was awarded. Faculty of various Departments of JSSAHER attended the programme.
