Go vegan, shun non-vegetarian diet: Artistic campaign by PETA in city

October 16, 2024

Mysuru: To promote the practice of vegetarian food, People For Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) had organised an innovative campaign through artistic depiction in city yesterday.

The campaign, organised as part of World Food Day, drew appreciation of the public. A woman dressed as blood stained food on a plate with a knife and fork kept beside, depicted the cruelty associated with the killing of animals for non-veg diet, forming the artistic depiction, on the footpath in front of the Town Hall.

In his address, PETA India Campaign Co-ordinator Atharva Deshmukh appealed to the people to adopt vegetarian life style and shun the practice of non-vegetarian food.

“It is better to consume vegetarian food rather than consuming the meat of the animal subjected to torture and unwilling to die,” he said.

According to National Family Health Survey conducted between 2019 and 2021, majority of the chunk of 81 percent of the population in the age group of 15 to 49 years in the State consume meat. If a person switches over to vegetarian food, every individual will be saving the life of 200 animals in a year. Such drastic changes are essential across the globe as decided by United Nations (UN), said Atharva Deshmukh.
