Gold sculptor Channappacharya passes away

Mysore/Mysuru: B.N. Channappacharya (87), a renowned gold sculptor and a resident of Gayathripuram, passed away yesterday morning in city.

He leaves behind his wife Amaravathi, son Srinivasachar, daughters Ahalya Kumari and Jayashri and a host of relatives and friends.

A recipient of Amarashilpi Jakanachari and Shilpakala Academy Awards, he had made the silver kavacha to the main door of Sri Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hill and had also made several idols, Kalasha and masks for temples at B.R. Hills, Kollur, Kukke Subramanya and many temples in south India.

Last rites were held at the foot of Chamundi Hill yesterday evening, according to sources.
