Golden plates returned to Sri Vyasaraja Mutt

December 22, 2017

Bengaluru: Sri Vyasaraja Mutt (Sosale) in city got back its golden plates that were in Police custody for about six years.

The Police had recovered the plates from a financier with whom it had been allegedly mortgaged by the Mutt’s former seer Sri Vidyamanohara Theertha.

The 40th seer of the Mutt has been accused of mismanaging the mutt’s affairs apart from selling the Mutt’s land in Andhra Pradesh and misusing silver and gold valuables of the Mutt.

It is said that the plates were recovered from a financier in Mysuru where it was mortgaged for Rs. 5 lakh in 2011 by the former Seer.

Following several allegations, the State Government took over the Mutt’s administration and also appointed retired IAS officer K. Jairaj as the Administrator in 2012.

It is believed that one of the gold plates which was used for performing ‘mangarathi’ was gifted to the Mutt by the Mysuru Royal Family and other plate was gifted by one of the devotees.
