Mysuru: Cyber criminals, who lured a Government employee of city into investing money by promising huge profit, has cheated him of Rs. 81.50 lakh. The man, who lost his money, is Suresh (name changed), a Government employee and a resident of Bogadi in city.

Suresh received a message on stock trading on his WhatsApp number from one Meera Iyer. On Aug. 3, a link was sent to him by the same person following which Suresh downloaded a mobile app through the link and updated his personal details.

He then transferred Rs. 40,000 from his wife’s bank account, bought a few stocks, sold it on Aug. 5 and withdrew Rs. 40,000.

He again received a message on stock trading from another WhatsApp group and from Aug. 3 to Sept. 5, he had invested Rs. 81,50,000. But when he tried to withdraw the money, he was informed to transfer the money first. Realising he was cheated, Suresh lodged a complaint at city’s CEN Police Station.
