Revenue Minister asks DCs in Chikkamagalur, Hassan and Kodagu to submit report in a month

Bengaluru: Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa has said that a survey is being conducted to find out encroachment of Government land by coffee planters.

Speaking to press persons here yesterday, Kagodu Thimmappa said that the re-survey is being carried out based on the report of retired IAS Officer  Dr. Balasubramaniam.

Noting that it is difficult to ascertain as to what extent the encroachments have taken place, the Minister said that he has directed the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of coffee growing districts to carry out the survey and submit the report within a month.

Maintaining that encroachments have taken place in major coffee growing districts like Chikkamagalur, Hassan and Kodagu, the Minister said that it has been discovered that over 35,000 acres of Government land has been encroached upon in Chikkamagalur district alone.

“The survey has been ordered to specifically and accurately find out the quantum of encroachment of Government land by coffee growers,” Thimmappa added.

He further said that many coffee planters have approached the Government seeking sanction of encroached land to themselves. However, a decision in this regard will be taken after the Government gets the comprehensive survey report, he added.
