Bengaluru: Even as it faces a challenge on Housing for the urban poor, the State Government recently announced that it will soon distribute Record of Rights to 60,061 urban poor families for regularisation of houses built on Government lands, under section 94CC of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act,1964.

Speaking to press persons here recently, Revenue Minister R. Ashoka said that beneficiaries under section 94CC are low-income families who have been living on Government lands in cities across the State.

The highest number of beneficiaries were in Dakshina Kannada, followed by Bengaluru Urban and Ballari, he said and added that similarly, beneficiaries have been identified under section 94C of the Act for rural areas.

Noting that the final list of beneficiaries was announced after scrutinising their applications over the last five years, Ashoka said that the beneficiaries of the scheme have to pay a nominal fee for regularisation of the sites.

“The scheme would be applicable only to houses built on 30 x 40 ft. and 20 x 30 ft sites in urban areas  prior to Jan.1, 2012,” he said.
