Perumal, Jyothi Mukesh, Arthi Ravishankar, Shantha Sreenivasa, Rtn. PDG Dr. R.S. Nagarjuna, Assistant Governor Rtn. Sunil Baliga and Rtn. C.S. Ravishankar.

Mysuru:  Two eminent doctors of the city, Dr. C. D. Sreenivasa Murthy (CDS), Cardiologist and Dr. Rajkumar Wadwa, Gastro Endocrinologist, were honoured by Rotary Ivory City Mysuru at a glittering function to mark Doctor’s Day.

Replying to felicitations, Dr. CDS recalled the services of Dr. B. C. Roy, the legendary Physician, who has contributed greatly to the Indian medical scene and who later became the Chief Minister of West Bengal.

Doctor’s Day is celebrated on July 1 every year to mark the birth anniversary (and death anniversary) of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy (1182- 1962).

Quoting from ancient scriptures about the importance of doctors in healing the suffering of the people, CDS said unfortunately, today not many doctors are ready to work in rural areas thereby depriving the benefits of modern medical facilities to villagers.

Stating that only 2 percent of doctors are working in rural areas, he said the government should provide special incentives to doctors who are willing to work in rural areas. Then only more and more doctors will volunteer to work in rural areas.

He said modern medicine has advanced far ahead of our imagination thereby increasing the lifespan of people and decreasing the infertile mortality rate. He thanked Rotary Ivory City for recognising the doctors by remembering their services.

Dr. Wadwa also spoke on the occasion.

Rtn. PDG Dr. R. S. Nagarjuna, who was the chief guest, was feted by Dr. CDS for his exemplary work in rural health care programmes since his graduation. Incidentally, Dr. Nagarjuna was a student of CDS.

Club President Rtn. Perumal and Rtn. V. N. Prasad were present among others.
