Mysore/Mysuru: Minister for Backward Classes Welfare, Muzrai and Religious Endowment, Kota Srinivas Poojari on Sunday inspected the ongoing construction of Backward Classes Welfare Department’s hostel building at Vasanth Nagar here on Sunday.
Speaking to presspersons, Poojari said that the Department is running 16 hostels in city and district, out of which, the ones at Saraswathipuram, Bogadi, Srirampura, Gokulam and Kuvempunagar are functioning from private buildings.
Pointing out that the Government was spending Rs. 2.5 crore annually towards rent and other miscellaneous charges for hostels located in private buildings, the Minister said that the Government is building a hostel complex with four blocks at Vasanth Nagar in the outskirts of the city. The construction of this hostel complex will save the Government Rs. 60 lakhs annually, he said and added that the four blocks coming up in Vasanth Nagar can accommodate 500 students in total. Noting that Karnataka Housing Board has taken up the construction, Poojari said that the construction will be completed in three months following which admission of students will begin.
Backward Classes Welfare Department District Officer Vidya, KHB AEE Jagadish, Taluk Welfare Officer Chandrakala, Extension Officer Satish, Engineer Krishna, BJP leaders Jogi Manju and others were present.
