Govt. set to file affidavit in SC on Mekedatu Project

March 21, 2017

The State Government is all set to file an affidavit in the Supreme Court (SC) on the construction of a balancing Reservoir as part of Mekedatu Drinking Water Project.

Replying to a question by MLAs Cheluvarayaswamy and Gopalaiah, during Question Hour in the State Assembly yesterday, Water Resources Minister M.B. Patil said that Karnataka was planning to file an affidavit as the Tamil Nadu Govt. had moved the SC against the execution of the Project.

Maintaining that the Government was doing everything to clear legal hurdles and to get permission from the competent authority for the Project, Patil said that the Project Report has been sent to the Central Water Commission for  its perusal.

Pointing out that Mekedatu Project is aimed at providing drinking water to Bengaluru and surrounding towns and villages, the Minister said that the Government was ready to meet the Prime Minster to discuss the issue.
