Govt. to decide on hiking reservation quantum for ST community

Bengaluru: With the growing demand from Valmiki community for a hike in the percentage of reservation for ST communities, Minister for Backward Classes and Transport B. Sriramulu said that the Government is considering hiking the quantum of reservation for ST communities.

Speaking to press persons here on Tuesday, Sriramulu, who himself is from Valmiki community, said that the Government is considering hiking the reservation quantum for ST from the current 3 to 7.5 percent in accordance with the population.

 Pointing out that several Valmiki Associations and community Seers have been staging demonstrations seeking reservation hike, Sriramulu said that a decision on the hike will be taken before the Assembly elections due next year.
