Graduation Day of JSS Law College

June 17, 2018

Mysuru: Observing that justice is not merely confined to maintaining the rule of law, but also involves rendering and considering the rights and liabilities of every citizen, Karnataka High Court Judge Justice K.N. Phaneendra said that it is the duty of every student to keep this in mind while serving the society.

He was delivering the Graduation Day address at the 11th Graduation Day of JSS Law College in Kuvempunagar here yesterday.

Pointing out that a statute or a law has three functions, the first being protection of the body, the second, protection of property and the third, protection of the society, Justice Phaneendra said that Law students have a responsibility towards the society, much like a raindrop that nurtures every living being on earth.

The  JSS Law College Graduates are seen with College Principal Prof. K.S. Suresh, JSS Mahavidyapeetha Executive Secretary Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, Karnataka High Court Judge Justice K.N. Phaneendra, Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji, Mysuru Principal District and Sessions Judge Suresh L.K. Vantigodi and others.

Stressing on the importance of value-based education, he said that good education can inculcate humbleness in students.

Noting that a good student will focus on introspection and innovation, the Judge emphasised on the role of teachers in moulding the future and career of students.

Suttur Mutt Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji, who graced the occasion, highlighted the need for the society to move towards emotional quotient from intelligence quotient as more and more educated people are becoming divisive, self-centred and materialistic.

He further said that there is an imminent need of imbibing values and emotions to counter this shift, which has become a matter of concern for the society.

Former Primary and Secondary Education Minister and incumbent Sirsi MLA Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri’s daughter Jayalakshmi (extreme left) and State BJP  Co-Spokesperson Kautilya R. Raghu’s daughter R.
