Mysore/Mysuru: The scrutiny of nomination papers filed for the first phase of Gram Panchayat (GP) polls was held yesterday.
After the scrutiny, it was found that out of the 7,684 nomination papers filed in the district, 7,416 were found in order, while 268 others were rejected on various grounds.
The first phase of GP polls is scheduled to take place on Dec. 22. Five taluks of the district — Hunsur, Periyapatna, K.R. Nagar, H.D. Kote and Saragur, will go to the polls in the first phase.
Out of the 7,416 nomination papers that were accepted, 2,014 nominations were for 595 seats in 41 GPs of Hunsur taluk, 1,745 for 562 seats in 34 GPs of K.R. Nagar taluk, 1,755 for 549 seats in 34 GPs of Periyapatna taluk, 1,286 for 407 seats in 26 GPs of H.D. Kote taluk and 616 for 190 seats in 13 GPs of Saragur taluk.
Second phase
Meanwhile, the filing of nomination papers for the second phase of GP polls scheduled to take place on Dec. 27, began on Dec. 11 and will continue till Dec. 16. A total of 102 GPs in Mysuru, Nanjangud and T. Narasipur taluks of the district will go to the polls in the second phase. Till Saturday, a total of 812 nomination papers were filed, including 166 in Mysuru taluk, 163 in T. Narasipur taluk and 483 in Nanjangud taluk.
The counting of votes will be taken up on Dec. 30.
