Gram Panchayat elections likely in two months

September 27, 2020

Bengaluru: With the State Election Commission writing to the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) of Karnataka to begin preparations for Gram Panchayat polls, the election to over 5,800 Gram Panchayats of the State is likely to be held in October or November, 2020.

The Election Commission has also appealed the State Government to release adequate funds and provide security for the conduct of polls.

The Commission has also issued the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for the conduct of polls in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.

The Gram Panchayat elections are overdue as their tenure ended in May/ June this year.

The polls could not take place because of COVD-19 spread and other administrative reasons.
