Grand Hindustani Duet by Khan Brothers in city on Oct.27, 28

Ganabharathi, Mysuru, has organised a grand Hindustani Duet by Khan Brothers on Oct.27 (Friday) at 6 pm at Veene Seshanna Bhavana, Adichunchanagiri road, Kuvempunagar.

The Hindustani vocal concert will be presented by Pandit Sarfaraz Khan  and Pandit Faraz Khan. They will be accompanied by Pandit Sumith Nayak on tabla, Pandit Veerabhadraiah Hiremath on harmonium.

About the artistes: Khan Brothers hail from well-known music family of Kirana Gharana form. Their great grand-father Ustad Shek Abdulla Khan was the Asthana Vidwan of Mysore Palace as well as of the Hyderabad Nawab.

Their grand-father Ustad Abdulla Qwadar Khan was an eminent performer in Sarangi Instrument and served in Dharwad Akashvani.

Khan Brothers’ music journey began under their father Ustad Fayaz Khan at a very early age and presently they are practising Sarangi under Guru Padma Bhushana Pandit Ramnarayan and advanced music from Sarod Maestro Pandit Rajiv Taranath.

At Nadabrahma Sabha           

A Hindustani vocal duet and a feast of Veena concerts will be held this weekend at Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on JLB Road in city to celebrate the 103rd birth anniversary of Sangita Kalanidhi Dr. Mysore V. Doreswamy Iyengar.

On Oct. 28 (Saturday) at 6 pm, Smt. Bhagirati and Kuskoor Krishnamurthy Memorial Hindustani vocal concert sponsored by the children of late K.V. Murthy & Brothers, will be presented by Sarfaraz Khan and Faraz Khan. They will be supported by Pt. Sumith Nayak on tabla and Pt. Veerabhadraiah Hiremath on harmonium.

On Oct. 29 (Sunday),  “Vainika Vaibhava” will be held to mark the birth anniversary of  Dr. Mysore V. Doreswamy Iyengar.

10 am: Inauguration of the event followed by Veena concert by Chitradurga Dwarakish accompanied by Vid. A. Radhesh on mridanga and Vid. C.A. Raghunandan Rao on ghata.

Multi-talented Dwarakish is an academician with M.Com, M.A in Sanskrit & Psychology, Astrology, Vidwat in Veena & Vocal. A resident of Chitradurga, he started his musical journey under local teachers and under Prof. T. Sharada. An established artiste in vocal, he is comfortable playing flute, violin, harmonium, khanjira, ghata and tabla.

11.30 am: Vid. Prashanth Iyengar will give a Veena concert with Vid. A. Radhesh on mridanga and Vid. C.A. Raghunandan Rao on ghata.

Prashanth Iyengar (born on 12th January 1973) is a classical musician and veena exponent  in Karnatak music genre. A performer, composer and teacher, he has composed 90 varnas that include 72 of them in each of the melakarta ragas. He is the first composer from Karnataka to have composed Varnams in all the 72 Melakarta Ragas and second youngest after Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna to compose. He has also composed 20 kritis, 10 devaranamas and five thillanas. He holds Limca National Record for his marathon Veena concert spanning 24 hours at Srirangapatna Temple in 2011.

Prashanth’s mother Vidu. Padmasini Narasimhachar  was his first veena guru who followed Mysore Veena Subbanna tradition. At the age of seven, he could play Pancharatna krutis. He later studied under Vid. R. K. Suryanarayana. He has a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and a Diploma in Computer Engineering.

6 pm: Vidu. Revathi Murthy will be honoured with the title Vainika Brahma by MLA T.S. Srivatsa. This will be followed by a Veena concert by Vidu. Revathi Murthy accompanied by Vid. H.L. Shivashankaraswamy on mridanga and Vid. M.R. Manjunath on ghata.

Born into a musical family in Mandya, Revathi Murthy was initiated into Veena at an early age by her mother Jayamma Kalbagal. Revathi pursued her Veena lessons in Mysore style under the tutelage of Vidwan Srinivasa Iyengar (brother of renowned Veena maestro Dr. V Doreswamy Iyengar). She has a B.A and B.Mus. degree from Mysore University,  She secured a gold medal in Bachelor of Music and was awarded the prestigious National Merit scholarship for two years which enabled her to pursue a Master’s  degree in Music. Subsequent to her Master’s programme she continued her musical journey under the guidance of Vidwan C Krishnamurthy and accompanied her guru in many of his concerts.
