Grand Jathra Mahotsava at Suttur Srikshetra from tomorrow

It is that time of the year when everyone’s attention in the State turns towards Adijagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi’s Jathra Mahotsava in Suttur Srikshetra. As part of the Jathra, an exhibition is also organised every year since the last 25 years and it is expanding each year.

The preparations are going on in full swing at the 15-acre JSS School premises in Suttur, where more than 350 stalls are coming up for the six-day event beginning Jan.13 and ending on Jan.18. Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji will grace the occasion.

The Department of Industries and Commerce, Department of Handlooms and Textiles, handicraft manufacturers, Sthree Shakti Groups, industrialists, more than 200 household item manufacturers and sellers, Central and State Governments’ various Departments will participate in the exhibition. Along with them, JSS Mahavidyapeetha and other organisations will also participate.

Academic Exhibition: Over 200 models in arts, literature, science and mathematics, made by nearly 400 students, would be displayed at the venue. These models have been prepared under the guidance of 75 teachers. This exhibition will help in the all-round development of primary, secondary and high school students, especially from Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts.

Health and Medical Exhibition: The health and medical exhibition has been organised by the JSS Mahavidyapeetha’s Health and Medical Education wing that includes Medicine, Ayurveda, Pharmacy, Dental, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Speech and Hearing and Yogic sciences.

The exhibition will feature display of original specimens, models, movies, documentaries, tableaux and short films that cover various topics including women & child health, paralysis, psychological issues, first-aid, cancer-related information, ill-effects of tobacco and alcohol, anatomy, prevention of various diseases and treatment.

JSS Dental College and Hospital will educate the visitors on dental health with posters and models that depict graphically the ill-effects of consuming tobacco and alcohol on the teeth and its prevention as also counselling. The children will be entertained through games about the importance of protecting the health of teeth.

Physiotherapy: Physiotherapy existed as a form of treatment for dysfunctions and disabilities for thousands of years. However, it is gaining a lot more importance now than in the past. The JSS College of Physiotherapy through charts and models will show various treatments available.

Health camp: JSS Hospital will organise a complete health check-up, and create awareness about the facilities available in various departments, Government and Private health insurance, blood donation, body, organ and eyes donation.

Speech and Hearing: JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing will check children on speech and hearing deficiencies, the development of speech according to age, learning disabilities, voice issues, stammering and other problems. They will also talk about various instruments available for the disorders.

Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences: JSS Institute of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences will highlight about the nature cure and the enjoyment of a healthy life style by practising yoga. It will also tell about leading a life without medicines, food as medicine, natural diets, fasting itself as the best medicine and information on other issues will be given.

Handicrafts Expo: The handicraft manufacturers, artisans and other skilled workers will participate in the exhibition to showcase their talents.

Info-cum-Expo on government programmes: Department of Public Instruction, BSNL, Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited, Family Planning Association of India, Information and Publicity Department, Health and Child Welfare Department and other Government agencies will participate. They will also provide information on various welfare measures taken up by the Government.

Other pro-people programmes taken up by the State Government will be highlighted and Legal Metrology Department will conduct a drive about weights and measures to the consumers.

More than two lakh visitors from different districts in the State and from Tamil  Nadu, Kerala and other States are expected to participate in the six-day Jathra at Suttur, a pilgrimage shrine.

Jan.13

10.30 am: Inauguration of Information Kiosk by Minister M.B. Patil, Rangoli contest by Minister Umashree, Smaskrutika Mela by cine actor Dr. Shivaraj Kumar, Sobane Pada contest by Minister and actress Thara Anuradha; Sri Basava Marulasiddappa Swamiji and Sri Bhanukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji will grace the occasion. Union Minister Ananth Kumar will preside.

4 pm: Inauguration of Exhibition (open for public from 10 am to 9 pm) by Minister R.V. Deshpande, Krishi Mela by Minister Krishna Bhyre Gowda, Academic Expo by Minister H.K. Muniyappa; Sri Guruparadeshikendra Swamiji and Sri Shankaracharya Vidyaranya Bharati Swamiji will grace the occasion. Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara will preside.

Jan.14

10.15 am: Mass Marriage – Sri Channaveera Shivacharya Swamiji and Sri Mummadi Nirvana Swamiji will grace the occasion; Vice-President of the Republic of Mauritius Paramasivum Pillay Vyapoory will inaugurate. Legislator and former Minister Dr. Shamanuru Shivashankarappa will preside. Marriage oath will be administered by Opposition Leader and former CM Jagadish Shettar. MP Dr. M. Veerappa Moily will distribute certificate. Minister M. Krishnappa will distribute ‘Mangalya.’ Minister Santhosh S. Lad will distributes materials.

3 pm: Inauguration of Bhajana Mela by MP and former CM B.S. Yeddyurappa. Painting contest by Minister Pramod Madhwaraj. Boating by Legislator and former Minister Basavaraj S. Bommai. Desi Games by MP and former Minister Shobha Karandlaje. Legislator and former Minister M.H. Ambarish will preside; Sri Mahanta Swamiji and Sri Sandrananda Swamiji will grace the occasion.

10.15 am: Maha Rathotsava (Dedication of new chariot to Adijagadguru Shivayogi) – Sri Prasanna Veerasomeshwara Swamiji and Sri Panchama Shivalingeshwara Swamiji will grace the occasion; Governor of Karnataka Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala will inaugurate. Union Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda will preside.

11 am: Religious Meet.

3 pm: 50th Cattle Fair (Suvarna Surabhi) – Sri Siddalinga Shivacharya Swamiji and Bishop of Mysore Rev. Fr. K.A. William will grace the occasion; Fair inauguration by former CM H.D. Kumaraswamy. Goshale by Minister Vinay R. Kulkarni. Minister K.R. Ramesh Kumar will preside.

10.30 am: Seminar on Agriculture – Dr. Sri Panditaradya Shivacharya Swamiji and Sri Purushothamananda Swamiji will grace the occasion. Seminar inauguration by MP and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda. Kite Flying contest by Minister U.T. Khader. Science and Technology – Model Making Centre inauguration by Minister M.R. Seetharam. Minister T.B. Jayachandra will preside.

3 pm: Valedictory of Seminar on Agriculture – Dr. Sri Shivananda Shivayogi Rajendra Swamiji and Sri Basavaprabhu Maadara Channaiah Swamiji will grace the occasion. Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council D.H. Shankaramurthy will preside. Valedictory address by Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly K.B. Koliwad. 2 pm: Wrestling competition – Sri Channabasava Swamiji and Sri Chidananda Swamiji will grace the occasion; Contest inauguration by Minister Ramesh Jigajinagi. Former Minister V. Sreenivasa Prasad will preside. Garadimane inauguration State Legislative Council Dy. Chairman Marithibbegowda. Prize distribution by Rajya Sabha Member K. 10.30 am: Valedictory of Krishi Mela, Exhibition and Samskrutika Mela – Dr. Sri Mallikarjuna Murugharajendra Swamiji and Dr. Sri Siddarama Swamiji will grace the occasion; Valedictory address by CM Siddharamaiah. PWD and Mysuru District in-Charge Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa will preside. Prize distribution by Minister H.K. Patil (Krishi Mela), MP and former Minister K.C. Venugopal (Exhibition), Minister Dr. Sharana Prakash Patil (Samskrutika Mela) and Minister Basavaraja Raya Reddy (Science and Academic Division).
