Mysuru: A colourful procession marked Chhatrapati Shivaji Jayanti, jointly organised by the District Administration, Kannada & Culture Department and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharajara Jayantyotsava Samiti, Mysuru, in city this morning.
Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath launched the procession by offering floral tributes to a portrait of Shivaji Maharaj, in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple at the Palace North Gate.
The procession, in which, a life-size portrait of Shivaji was carried on a silver chariot, passed through K.R. Circle, D. Devaraj Urs Road, JLB Road, Metropole Circle and Vinoba Road, before reaching Kalamandira, where a stage programme will be held in the afternoon.
The procession, in which hundreds of people took part, was accompanied by a band set and a host of folk and cultural troupes.
Deputy Mayor Shafi Ahmed, former Minister C.H. Vijayashankar, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharajara Jayantyotsava Samiti President N. Gopal Rao Jadhav, Corporator Shobha Sunil, former Corporator Sunil and others were present.
