June 15, 2018

A grand vocal duet has been arranged by RAAGA Music Academy on Saturday, the 16th at 5.30 pm at Prajna Kuteera, Vishwamanava Double Road, Kuvempunagar. Vidu. Kanchana S. Shriranjani and Vidu. Kanchana S. Shruthiranjani, popularly known as Kanchana Sisters, are the star performers.

Hailing from a family of musicians, the sisters started learning music from their father Karnataka Kalashri Kanchana V. Subbarathnam, from the tender age of three and entered stage at the age of four. The duo specialises in the rendition of Avadhana Pallavis, which they learnt from their maternal uncle, the renowned  Vid. Dr. R.S. Nandakumar. The ability to render most complex compositions by playing different taalas with different nadais on both hands simultaneously, has enthralled the connoisseurs of music. They have documented their unique Avadhana Art at the University of Hyderabad.

They have conceptualised, directed and performed diversified music projects like Vachana Viveka, Sri Thyagaraja Seetha Kalyanam etc. They are also experts in notating poetic verses on the spot and have worked with greats like Shatavadani Dr. R. Ganesh, Dwaraki Krishnaswamy and many others. They have composed and directed BGMs for many music albums and dance programmes. Very many awards and accolades like Ananya Yuva Prathibha Puraskara, Gold medal from the Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala, Dr. Veerendra Heggade, have come their way.
