GSSSIETW wins Hackathon

Mysore/Mysuru: Intel India STEM Skills Programme for Women through Learning Links Foundation, Bengaluru, conducted a ‘VLSI course’ for three weeks. Thousands of students from various Engineering Colleges across Karnataka participated in the programme.

Students from GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women (GSSSIETW), Mysuru, also actively took part in the programme with Dr. S.J. Sushma, Associated Professor, ECE Department, as their Faculty Co-ordinator.

A team from Intel Education delivered courses on implementation of analog and digital circuits using Quartus Software. As part of this programme, each team had to submit a project which was later shortlisted for presentations.

Totally 62 shortlisted projects in VLSI domain were presented online on Mar. 8 and was judged by experts from Intel. Three teams from GSSSIETW were among the Top 6 teams selected for the final round. Mentors from Intel were allotted to them, to work on Communication Protocols.

The final round of Hackathon was held at Fern Residency, Bengaluru, on Mar. 15. The teams implemented various applications based on communication protocols like I2C, UART, PCI and presented the use cases to the panel.

K.L. Chandana and P. Dakshitha of 3rd Semester Electronics and Communication Engineering, GSSSIETW, jointly mentored by Dr. C. Shyamala, Associate Professor, ECE Department, GSSSIETW and R. Padma, Assistant Professor, ECE Department, GSSSIETW, bagged second prize for the implementation of UART protocol using Verilog and were awarded with prize money of Rs. 8,000.

The other two teams from GSSSIETW, comprising M.J. Bindhushree and Apoorva N. Lokare, guided by R. Padma, Assistant Professor, B.E. Ramya and S. Rakshitha, mentored by H.D. Nalina, Assistant Professor, ECE Department, bagged consolation prize with a cash prize of Rs. 5,000 each.
