Mysuru: The Department of Commerce and Management, Basudev Somani College, Kuvempunagar, had organised a one-day workshop on “The Anatomy of Goods and Services Tax” in association with Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), Mysore Chapter, at the College auditorium yesterday.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. B. Nagaraju, Chairman and Associate Professor, Department of Studies in Commerce, University of Mysore.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that GST, one of the greatest economic reforms implemented from 1st July 2017, will boost the nation’s economy in future.
CS Manjunath, Secretary, ICSI, Mysore Chapter, who delivered the keynote address, highlighted the Companies Act, 2013 and Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, said to be major legislations which impacting Indian economy in a greater extent. He also emphasised the significance of GST in present era.
On the occasion, the college annual magazine “Sambhram:2016-17” was released by H.N. Nagaraj, Chairman and Management Trustee of Institute of Education Trust (IET).
Briefing about GST mechanism, he insisted that the professionals and practitioners need to resolve issues concerning GST at the earliest.
Dr. M. Puttaswamy, Managing Trustee of IET, dwelt on the shortcomings that existed in earlier taxation policy. Dr. M. Mahadevaiah, Principal, Basudev Somani College, presided.
Manjunath and Veeresh from ICSI, Mysore Chapter, were the resource persons at the workshop.
Dr. M. Girishkumar, Assistant Professor, was the Coordinator. R.Abhay, Assistant Professor, proposed a vote of thanks.
