‘Hath Kargha Utsav’ begins

Mysuru: ‘Hath Kargha Utsav – My Handloom, My Pride,’ the State-level Handloom Exhibition-cum-Sale was inaugurated by Dr. Pushpa Amarnath, Vice-Chairperson, Karnataka State Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority, at JSS Mysore Urban Haat in Hebbal Industrial Area yesterday.

The expo will be open to public between 10 am and 9 pm till Sept. 8, under the joint aegis of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, New Delhi; Department of Handlooms and Textiles, Government of Karnataka; Cauvery Handlooms, Bengaluru; and JSS Mahavidyapeetha – JSS Mysore Urban Haat.

The inaugural event was attended by Ayub Khan, Chairman, Karnataka Exhibition Authority (KEA); B.J. Ganesh, Chairman, Cauvery Handlooms; M. Sowmya, Managing Director, Cauvery Handlooms; T. Ramalingam, Assistant Director, Weavers’ Service Centre, Bengaluru and B. Ilangovan, Deputy Director, Technical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha.

More than 60 weavers and artisans from different States are participating in the expo. Visitors can explore a wide range of renowned handloom products including Molakalmuru, Ilkal, Kanjeevaram, Banarasi, Chanderi, Maheshwari, Sambalpuri, Pochampally, Patola and Pashmina handlooms.

The expo offers a special shopping opportunity for the Gauri-Ganesha festival, enabling the public to purchase quality handloom products directly from the weavers and artisans.
