Bengaluru: Union Minister for Heavy Industry and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy (HDK) felicitated para athlete K.S. Shilpa, of Mysuru, who won a bronze medal in the women’s Shot Put F57 event in the recently held Commonwealth Games 2026 at Glasgow, Scotland.

Shilpa, visited H.D. Kumaraswamy’s official residence in New Delhi yesterday along with her coaches Satyanarayana and Pushpa Niranjan Prasad.

Kumaraswamy, who described her achievement as a proud moment for Karnataka and the nation, praised Shilpa for her remarkable achievement stating that it was an inspiration for younger generation.  

Shilpa is a resident of Kanchugarakoppal village in K.R. Nagar taluk of Mysuru which falls under the Mandya Lok Sabha Constituency represented by H.D. Kumaraswamy.

HDK also felicitated Shilpa’s coaches Satyanarayana and Pushpa Niranjan Prasad on the occasion.

Later, in a post on ‘X’, Kumaraswamy said, “Today, I welcomed and felicitated Smt. Shilpa K. Shaila, Karnataka’s distinguished para-athlete, on her remarkable achievement of winning the bronze medal in the Women’s Shot Put F57 event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

A resident of K.R. Nagar in my Lok Sabha constituency, Shilpa’s journey from overcoming immense personal adversity to bringing laurels to the nation is a testament to her unwavering determination, perseverance and indomitable spirit. Her historic achievement is a matter of pride for Karnataka and for the entire country, and serves as an inspiration to the younger generation.

I also felicitated her coach, Shri Satyanarayana, and Smt. Pushpa Niranjan Prasad, in recognition of their invaluable contribution to this outstanding accomplishment.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Shilpa and wish her continued success in bringing greater glory to India on the international stage.”
