Minister lays foundation stone for Varuna, Biligere Police Stations
Mysuru, Feb.27- Observing that Police Stations will help people become law abiding citizens, District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa said that nobody is above the law and all are equal before the law.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone for two Grade-III Police Stations at Megalapura in the taluk yesterday, Dr. Mahadevappa said that the setting up of Police Stations helps people become law abiding citizens which enables the State to become a welfare State.
Pointing out that Police Officers, who work in Police Stations should not discriminate among people, he said that they should discharge their duties irrespective of caste, creed and religion.
Asserting that no erring Policeman will be spared, the Minister said that apart from Cauvery water related issues, the overall law and order situation when compared to other States was good in Karnataka. The new buildings will come up at Megalapura in Varuna hobli in Mysuru taluk and Biligere in Nanjangud taluk.
The new Police Stations will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.08 crore and the construction works would be completed within 10 months. The new buildings will have separate rooms for Station-in-charge Sub-Inspector, Wireless, Computer and Documents sections, separate cells for men & women offenders and toilets.
Chamarajanagar MP R. Dhruvanarayan, who also spoke on the occasion, said that atrocities on Dalits in Karnataka was far less in Karnataka as compared to other States such as Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Claiming that the Law and Order is good in Karnataka, the MP said that the only set back is the low conviction rate.
Noting that the recent verdict on Dalit killings at Kambalapalli village in Kolar district by the High Court is also a lesson for Police Officers to come out with proof and evidences, Dhruvanarayan said that although law and order was well under control in the State, the severity of punishment for crimes needed to the increased as it was shocking to note how in many instances the culprits escaped severe retribution.
