Schevaran Innovation Centre (SIC), Hebbal, has launched a ‘Health Campaign on Personal Hygiene for School Children’ for students of classes IV to VIII in three selected Schools of Mysuru city — Government High School, Rajendranagar, Government Higher Primary School, Tilak Nagar and Bharathi Sthree Samaja School, Yadavagiri.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. T.N. Bhavanishankar, Director, SIC, on Sept. 19, 2016 in the Government High School, Rajendranagar, in the presence of Sam Cherian, MD of Schevaran Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., Mysuru, Dr. K.N. Gurudutt and Dr. M.C. Varadaraj, members of Advisory Board of SIC and Sharmila, Head Mistress, staff and students of the School.

The campaign had the participation of 536 students from three schools. The students were given a presentation-cum-demonstration of the hygiene practices in simple worded phrases by Vinutha and Hemalatha, Research Associates of SIC.

As a motivation for the children to continue with the practices at their homes, SIC provided each student a kit containing a set of tooth brush & paste, a bath soap, a detergent cake, a nail cutter and a bottle of hand wash liquid soap. The campaign was planned till the end of 2016-17 academic year (March 31, 2017) and was revisited by SIC team every month to follow-up.

The students were periodically replenished with fresh tooth paste, bath soap, detergent cake and hand wash liquid soap.

The concluding event was held at Bharathi Sthree Samaja School in Railway Hospital Campus on Mar. 24. Rani, Head Mistress, welcomed and thanked the team for selecting their School for this health campaign.

Dr. Bhavanishankar interacted with students to elicit information about their actual involvement in personal hygiene practices. Following these interactions, he presented prizes to the selected students.
