Helmet Quality Checking Drive: Police seize non-ISI marked helmets

Mysuru: Keeping in mind the safety of motorists (two- wheeler riders) and also to prevent fatalities through head injuries, the Mysuru City Police (both Civil and Traffic) began their drive against motorists wearing non-Indian Standards Institute (ISI) mark helmets in city this morning.

Stationed at vantage points in city, the Police personnel were seen stopping two-wheeler riders and checking their helmets (both rider and pillion). The Police seized helmets worn by two-wheeler riders which did not have ISI marks as they do not comply with the safety standards. He said that the non-ISI mark helmets which are seized by them would be handed over to the jurisdictional Traffic Police Stations for  futher action.

Meanwhile, DCP Dr. Vikram V. Amathe, speaking to SOM, said that the drive against non-ISI mark helmets began at 9 am today and would continue throughout the day. He said that the helmets which are seized during the drive would be destroyed and added that places where such helmets are sold on roadsides are being raided and the helmets seized there too are also being destroyed.

Public can inform the Police about the places where such helmets are being sold by calling the Police Control Room on Ph: 0821-2418339 so that the Police can take action, he added.
