Mysore/Mysuru: As part of International Volunteers’ Day, a cleaning campaign was conducted at Chamundi Hill last Sunday in which college students and volunteers of various organisations took part.
The cleaning campaign was jointly organised by Youth for Seva and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in which students of ATME College, NIE and Yuvaraja’s College and also volunteers of Youth for Seva and WWF numbering more than 100 took part. National Resource Person Harish Shenoy of Youth for Seva, who launched the cleaning drive, appreciated the college students for taking part in the drive voluntarily.
The cleaning began from the foot of Chamundi Hill on Ooty Road and the area of the Hill including the surroundings of Chamundeshwari Temple atop the hill was cleared of garbage. The students and volunteers collected about 455 kg garbage, which was handed over to Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) to be disposed off scientifically.
MCC Health Officer Shivashankar appreciated the youths for participating in the cleaning drive voluntarily and said that these youths were the role model for others. The cleaning campaign, which began at 6.30 am, concluded at 1.30 pm.
Chirag Gowda of WWF and Yashwanth Gowda of Youth for Seva led the drive.
