Hindustani Classical Sitar recital at BVB tomorrow

Mysuru: As part of its monthly cultural programme, the Kalabharathi Division of  Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB), Mysuru Kendra, has organised a Hindustani classical Sitar recital by Vidushi Geetha Sridhara on Sept. 16 (Saturday) at 6.30 pm at BVB’s Y.T. Thathachari auditorium in Vijayanagar 1st Stage

Geetha Sridhara will be accompanied on tabla by her son Keshav Sridhara, a Mechanical Engineer by profession. .

Profile: Geetha Sridhara is a talented Sitarist from Mysuru. Born in a family of artistes, her passion for Sitar took her to Hyderabad in 1990. She completed Visharad degree (Bachelor’s) in Sitar from Gandharv Mahavidyalay, Mumbai, after her study and practice in Vivek Vardhini School of Music, Hyderabad. She completed her Alankar Degree (Master’s) under the guidance of Ustad Majtaba Ali Khan, popularly known as Chand Bhai, who is a top class artiste of AIR, Hyderabad on Sitar.

An ‘A’ grade artiste of AIR, she established her own music school at Hyderabad in 2000 and named it as “Sur Sadhana School of Music” from where scores of students have been trained in Sitar.

Presently, she is training Sitar aspirants at her Sur Sadhana School in Madhuvana Layout, Srirampura, Mysuru and also at Nrityalaya Trust, Krishnamurthypuram.

Geetha Sridhara has given many performances during these years and has also accompanied Vidushi Dr.Tulasi Ramachandra in her dance-drama “Saartha”.  

She had total support for her artistic journey from her husband Sridhara, a Consulting Civil Engineer.
