Hindustani Sitar recital tomorrow

September 7, 2019

Raaga Vaibhava Trust, Mysuru, founded fifteen years ago in Mysuru due to the combined efforts of ten classical music-lovers, has been organising four to five programmes every year by top-rate artistes in the field, thus promoting the art in a big way. Added to music programmes, once in a way, a classical dance programme by top artistes in the field is also arranged.

The present programme on the 8th (Sunday) at 6 pm is a classical Hindustani Sitar Recital by the well-known Sitarist of the day Ustad Shafique Khan, accompanied by Pandit D.K. Satalingappa on tabla.

The venue of the programme is ‘Mysore Vasudevacharya Bhavan’ at Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha, JLB Road, Mysuru.

About the artistes

Ustad Shafique Khan (the Sitarist) is a sixth generation musician in a family of musicians and is a grandson of ‘Sitar Ratna’ Rahiyat Khan. His father Prof. Abdul Karim Khan groomed him to become what he is today. The family is from Dharwad.

The Ustad’s style mainly stresses on the finer aspects of playing the beautiful sitar with a melodious blend of ‘Gaayaki Ang’ and ‘Tantca Kari Ang’ both of which reverberate in his style of playing giving a soothing effect to the ears of the connoisseurs. Naturally, the Ustad has travelled widely all over the country and abroad giving his performances. He has won many accolades and titles from several Sabhas in India and abroad. He is also a prominent ‘A’ Top artiste of the Dharwad Station of AIR.

The tabla artiste Pandit Satalingappa from Hyderabad is a well-known accompanist and a ‘A-Top’ artist of AIR. He has also given his concerts abroad and all over the country.  The programme is free for all connoisseurs of music.
