November 24, 2018

Mysuru: Swarasankula Sangeetha Sabha, Mysuru, has organised a grand Hindustani vocal concert by Pandit Shashank Maktedar from Panaji, Goa, on Sunday (Nov.25) at Nadabrahma Sabha auditorium on JLB Road. The present concert is in the form of a tribute to late Pandit Ramarao Nayak, a stalwart in his time.  The programme is split into two parts as follows:

  1.  ‘Tala Gana Yana,’ a percussion voyage by seven stalwarts. All Pandits, Sharan Kumar, Aranya Kumar, Prabhurao, Ramesh Dhannur, Gundia and Ganesh Gorata. A rare musical extravaganza. This will be between 5 pm to 6.15 pm.
  2. From 6.15 pm onwards, Pandit Shashank Maktedar from Panaji, Goa, will render his vocal concert. He will be accompanied on harmonium by Pandit Veerabhadrayya Hiremutt and Pandit Udayaraj Karpur on tabla, all stalwarts in their own field.

Pandit Shashank Maktedar belongs to the tradition of all the three main Gharanas, namely Gwalior, Jaipur and Agra.  He has been trained under Padmashri Ullas Kashalkar for nine years at Calcutta I.T.C. Sangeet Research Academy. He has also given concerts all over the country and abroad and is a ‘A’ grade artiste of AIR and holds a Ph.D in Music.

He is presently settled down in Panaji, Goa and tutoring a number of youngsters in the music field.

Dr. M.S. Bhaskar, President of the Sabha, requests the connoisseurs of music to attend the concert and encourage the artistes.
