May 5, 2019

Mysuru:  Over 60 residents of villages in Hinkal Gram Panchayat limits, under the aegis of District Committee of Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI), staged a  protest near the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in city on Friday, demanding supply of adequate drinking water like the city residents.

They shouted slogans against the authorities for not implementing permanent drinking water facility to the Hinkal GP, which is the biggest in the district with a population of 35,000.

They alleged that the government has failed to provide water to Hinkal villages which are located very close to Mysuru city.

They also condemned the District Administration for misleading the government by providing wrong information of not having drinking water problem in the district when several villages including Hinkal GP was reeling under severe drinking water crisis this summer.

Though KRS is located very close to Hinkal and main water supply pipeline of Mysuru city passed through their village, residents of Hinkal GP were still deprived of drinking water.

Addressing the protesters, SUCI District Committee Chief Umadevi criticised the government for not repairing the defunct borewells in villages. Of the 28 borewells sinked in Hinkal GP, 25 of them are under repair.

She also urged to ensure water to Hinkal villages from Vani Vilas Water Works on the lines of providing  to Mysuru city besides to set up more RO units and expedite the Multi Village Drinking Water scheme.

They threatened to intensify their stir, if their demands were not met within a few days.
