Sir,
A historic celebration in the heart of the city will unfold from Nov. 21 to 24. Yes, it’s the Centenary Year of our Sri Ramakrishna Ashram (RK Ashram), Mysuru — 100 years of glorious service to mankind. And if the local community has not visited this sacred space, now is the perfect time to enter the Ashram premises and experience its uplifting spiritual ambience.
The Mysuru Ashram, which began in 1925 as a small shrine housing the Holy Trio and a Study Centre established by monks of the Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, has since grown into a sprawling spiritual sanctuary — spreading its bountiful branches like a sacred banyan tree, nurturing, caring for and guiding countless spiritual seekers.
Situated along the bustling KRS Road, the RK Ashram offers an oasis of peace. The moment you step through its gates, a sense of calm prevails. The noise, pollution and traffic chaos melt away, replaced by a serene spiritual aura. One can sit in silence in the spacious shrine and feel warmth and grace of the Holy Trio — Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother and Swami Vivekananda — gently radiating through the space.
Spiritual discourses — held every weekend in English and Kannada in the Ashram auditorium — have remained an unbroken tradition throughout these glorious decades. The number of eminent spiritual scholars, leaders and artists who have graced and blessed this sacred place is truly remarkable.
The Ashram has not only flourished in Mysuru but has also established two renowned educational institutions: RIMSE and Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala.
We, the citizens, must continue to encourage and support the noble work of this century-old spiritual organisation, run selflessly by Ramakrishna Mission monks under the leadership of Swami Mukthidanandaji.
