Let us make public parks parthenium-free

June 9, 2022

Sir,

Nowadays we see a lot of people going to public parks for their morning walks and jogging to maintain their health.

This is really appreciable. While doing so they have a firm expectation that all these public parks should be maintained by  the local bodies, that is City Corporations, Town Panchayats etc.

People give good cooperation in keeping these places clean by not throwing plastics/papers/cigarette butts and not taking their pet animals into these public parks. But this is not sufficient.  We cannot expect that the local authorities should do everything for these public parks, that is watering the plants; cleaning and weeding.  Parthenium plants have grown in almost all parks.  This cannot be eradicated only by local authorities.  Public/citizens  should also involve in this.

In my opinion if every walker/jogger or park visitor decides to pluck at least one or two parthenium plants per day, we can dream of parthenium-free public parks in the near future.

Many people may take an excuse that these parthenium plants are allergic to them.  But if one or two parthenium plants are plucked in a day, one cannot be a prey for allergy, I feel.
